Introductions
Welcome to my Substack!
My name is Dave Hebert. In my day job, I am a Senior Research Fellow at the American Institute for Economic Research. I am also an Affiliate Scholar at the Acton Institute where I also serve as the Managing Editor for the Journal of Markets & Morality. Finally, I also serve as an Associate Director of the Entangled Political Economy Research Network (check out my discussion with fellow Associate Director, Mikayla Novak, on the Hayek Program Podcast for more).
In my previous life, I was an economics professor at Aquinas College, Troy University, and Ferris State University. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for higher education. In today’s world, I truly believe that getting a quality education is of paramount importance, both for the educational content and also the networking/socializing aspect. And the simple fact that college is a time for young adults to learn more about who they are and how they can get along with others. Unfortunately, many schools are simply not providing hardly any of this to their students.
I’m using this space primarily for two things:
To share links and other resources that I find interesting and important
To share writings of mine that, for one reason or another, are not published elsewhere.
As anyone who writes knows, writing is easy; publishing is hard. At the same time, one of my mentors used to say “thinking without writing is daydreaming.” My friends and I came up with an addendum to this for “writing without getting published” but that will have to stay between us! Putting your ideas out for others can be intimidating. However, I have always viewed it as an opportunity to learn from others and so, ideas (most of which will be half-baked at best) will go here and it is my hope that you will help me make them better and stronger.
If you’ve made it this far, thanks so much! I look forward to interacting with you in the comments and anywhere else!
