Yesterday, I had two radio hits, talking about tariffs. I’ve only done radio once before (and it has been a LONG time since then), but I have to admit that it was really, really nice. I am remarkably bad at sitting still, so TV is hard for me because I just want to get up and move. With radio, I could walk around my office while talking on the phone, I could have notes handy on my screen, and I didn’t have to worry about what I actually looked like.
Anyway, here are the links:

Yes, I’m aware that the host called me “David Herbert.” It happens more often than I would like, so I’m used to it at this point and don’t bother correcting people anymore. It just doesn’t matter, it takes up airtime, and I’ve got better things to do.
A favorite snippet:
Jay: The only thing you can say, David, is he did this in term one, so you know, let’s not forget that he’s got a little bit of history with this stuff.
Me: Yea, let’s not forget that. He did it in China in his first term. He saved about 1,000 jobs in the steel and aluminum producing sector. Meanwhile, 75,000 manufacturing jobs vanished due to the tariffs. So let’s not forget that. Let’s remember exactly. that.
Jay: No question about it.

Two snippets:
Me: Look, if you got in your car and said ‘hey I’m going to go to Florida’ and you called me from New York City and said ‘hey, I’m on my way to Florida,’ I would tell you to turn around and start heading south. And the truth of the matter is that these tariffs are kind of like driving north [from Kentucky, where the show was being broadcast] to get to Florida. They’re going in the completely opposite direction.
And
Kruse: Alright, well maybe it’ll have a positive effect on cutting down fentanyl crossing the southern border, I don’t know. It seems like just Trump taking office himself stopped a lot of illegal immigration at the southern border. The message was there’s a new sheriff down here and it ain’t the old one. We’ve seen border crossings go way down.
Me: I hope we get at least something out of these tariffs because right now it looks pretty rough.
All in all, going on the radio was pretty fun. I would definitely do it again!
