Tariffs should be toast
If JD Vance is serious about bringing high paying manufacturing jobs back to America ("J.D. Vance’s Knockoff Theory of Manufacturing,” Review and Outlook, August 4), he needs to buck the trend set by each president this century and reduce tariffs. Doing so would lower the cost of the materials used in manufacturing, such as steel, aluminum, and rubber. This would allow US manufacturers to purchase more material to be used by more workers to produce more products. More production means higher wages.
